Music
People have always found music significant in their lives, whether for enjoyment in listening, the emotional response, performing, or creating. In all levels of education, music has immense worth. Students learn many important and necessary values for life as music enhances their mind, their expressive ability, and a whole host of other qualities. Learning to read music is learning a different language with abstract sonic meaning.
Why study Music?
The study of Music is an important part of our curriculum. Research has proven some amazing benefits that impact on brain development, that include improved information recall, lowers stress, increases happiness, raises IQ and academic performance. We offer Music throughout the school with students choosing IGCSE Music in year 10.
In addition to weekly class music lessons, many students choose to learn individual instruments with our specialist teachers or Director of Music.
These include classical and electric and bass guitar, piano/keyboards, saxophone, flute, clarinet, drums and traditional Indian instruments including sitar, tabla and harmonium. In fact, this past year, making the most of our international staff, we even expanded a bit further in culture and introduced the study of Egyptian music along with their typical instruments as one of our teachers comes from Egypt.
