King’s Counselling Services
In any given moment, we have two options: step forward into growth or step back into safety.” — Abraham Maslow
At King’s, our Counselling Department is dedicated to helping students step confidently into growth.
We guide learners to see challenges not as threats or failures waiting to happen, but as opportunities to understand themselves, discover their strengths, and build lifelong resilience.
When students feel safe, heard, and accepted, they naturally move toward their fullest potential, wellbeing, and future success.
Our Philosophy
Historically, mental health has carried stigma, leaving many young people hesitant to speak up or ask for help. Our counselling services exist to change that narrative by establishing clear, accessible, and supportive pathways for students within the school setting.
At King’s, counselling is embedded within the daily life of the school, offering structured guidance that supports students as they manage academic expectations, peer relationships, and personal challenges. Our approach emphasises consistency, professionalism, and collaboration with families and educators, ensuring students receive timely and appropriate support.

Our Best Practices
1. One-to-One & Group Counselling Support
We offer both individual (one-to-one) counselling and small group counselling to meet diverse student needs.
- One-to-one counselling provides personalised, confidential emotional support tailored to each student
- Group counselling supports social skills, emotional awareness, peer relationships, resilience, and shared learning experiences.
These approaches help students feel understood while building confidence and emotional competence.
2. Parent–Counsellor–School Collaboration
We believe emotional growth is strongest when parents, counsellors, and the school work together.
Through regular communication, guidance sessions, and shared strategies, we ensure consistent emotional support across home and school, supporting students’ social, emotional, and developmental needs.
3. Strengths-Based Approach
Our counselling focuses on strengths rather than deficits. Students identify personal strengths, set achievable goals, reflect on progress, and celebrate growth, fostering independence, self-belief, and resilience.
4. Trust, Confidentiality & a Safe Emotional Space
Empathy, active listening, and non-judgment form the foundation of all counselling interactions.
Students are encouraged to speak openly in a safe and confidential environment, reducing emotional buildup and promoting wellbeing.
5. Integrating Physical Activity for Emotional Regulation
We recognise the strong mind–body connection in emotional wellbeing.
Movement-based strategies such as physical exercise, sports, mindfulness movement, and structured activities help students regulate emotions, manage stress, and build confidence.
6. Early Identification & Intervention
Behavioural, emotional, and academic patterns are observed early to identify concerns promptly.
Through collaboration with teachers and parents, targeted support is provided before challenges escalate, ensuring every child feels valued and supported.
7. Early Identification & Intervention
Art-based and expressive techniques such as drawing, colour work, mandalas, reflection, and symbolic expression allow students to communicate emotions safely, especially when words feel difficult.
8. Educator Wellbeing & Classroom Support
We support educators through guidance, emotional insights, and practical classroom strategies, strengthening teacher–student relationships and promoting a healthier learning environment.
